Play and its Importance in Early Childhood Education

Abstract: Understanding the transformations that education goes through today is the role of the teacher, the student, and the entire society; it is also essential to know the importance of the school and its function so that the teaching and learning process can be improved effectively; however, one cannot forget, above all, that it is a challenge for teachers who want to build methodologies and strategies that materialize the learning and educational forms. Thus, playing can be an excellent way to encourage learning, highlighting the importance of play and playfulness, where the individual learns to accept rules, wait his turn, accept the outcome, deal with frustration, experiment, discover, and invent, besides having stimulated curiosity, self-confidence, autonomy, providing the development of language, thinking, concentration, and being a moment of self-expression and achievement. This article aims to study and analyze the importance of play in early childhood education, as a pedagogical practice in the early years of education. The methodology used was qualitative bibliographic research, based on bibliographic references in the concept of authors to observe how playfulness will be useful as a pedagogical resource in early childhood education. The play at school is a tool in favor of the teacher to work with the contents in a playful way in which the child assimilates more easily what is taught, contributing to their full development to facilitate their learning process.

Edilson Antonio Catapan has a PhD and Master degree in production engineering from Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil (2005 and 2001), has a specialization course as manager in a electric energy provider from Federal University of Paraná, Brazil (1997), specialization course in economic engineering from the Administration and Economics Instituition, Brazil (1987) and graduated in Administration from the Positivo University, Brazil (1984). He was a financial executive of the Paranaense Company of Energy, Brazil (COPEL/PR) for 33 years (1980 – 2013) holding the offices of Financial and Budget planning Superintendent, Costs and Economical studies Superintendent, Controllership superintendent and board assistant. Served as a Holder Member of the Advisory Board of Copel Foundation, Brazil. Was Director of the budget Comittee of Copel, Director of Audit Committee of Copel Telecommunications and other Administrations Comittees in the equity holdings of Copel, Brazil.
