Abstract

One of the objectives set in the teaching of Differential Equations at the Tecnológico Nacional de México, is to use them in the study of dynamic systems, and one of the first systems to be studied is the Mechanical Oscillator. In this article we present the analysis of the response of such a system to harmonics and, in particular, the one in which Quasiresonance is present. In an oscillator it is impossible for resonance to occur, since the frequencies are given by irrational numbers which, as we know, cannot be equalized. However, very close values between the natural frequency of the system and the frequency of the excitation signal can occur: In this case the phenomenon we call "Quasiresonance" occurs. There are many examples in engineering of systems that have been destroyed by this cause. Although Quasiresonance is desirable in some electrical systems, in general, in mechanical systems it is undesirable because of the damage it causes, so knowing the response of the systems in such circumstances is essential to avoid damage and undesired responses in the systems.
