Dance as a tool for intervention in the social representation of the environment

Abstract

Los problemas ambientales que agobian a las sociedades contemporáneas evidencian la necesidad de alternativas de solución. El medio ambiente es considerado una representación social que se define como un conjunto de ideas, saberes y conocimientos con las que cada persona comprende, interpreta y actúa en su realidad. Cuando un individuo tiene una representación social del medio ambiente en la que se percibe ajeno, resulta en la invisibilización de la crisis que éste sufre al no reconocerse como parte del problema ni de la solución. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la forma en que influye la danza como herramienta de intervención en la representación social del medio ambiente en una muestra de estudiantes de la Lic. en Danza Escénica de la Universidad de Colima a través de un Encuentro Creativo Expresivo piloto transdisciplinario, bajo el método de Investigación Acción Participación. Las herramientas seleccionadas son: laboratorio de movimiento, análisis de material audiovisual, exposición breve de contenidos teóricos, discusiones grupales, prácticas de campo y registro de observación. Se busca que estas reflexiones obtenidas por medio del cuerpo se extrapolen a la problemática ambiental y se constituya la intervención como una herramienta educativa para sociedades sustentables.

The environmental problems that burden contemporary societies show the need for alternative solutions. The environment is considered a social representation that is defined as a set of ideas, knowledge and know-how with which each person understands, interprets and acts in his or her reality. When an individual has a social representation of the environment in which he/she perceives him/herself as an outsider, this results in the invisibility of the crisis he/she suffers by not recognizing him/herself as part of the problem or of the solution. The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of dance as an intervention tool in the social representation of the environment in a sample of students of the Bachelor's Degree in Scenic Dance of the University of Colima through a transdisciplinary pilot Creative Expressive Encounter, under the method of Action-Participatory Research. The selected tools are: movement laboratory, analysis of audiovisual material, brief exposition of theoretical contents, group discussions, field practices and observation record. The aim is to extrapolate these reflections obtained through the body to the environmental problem and to constitute the intervention as an educational tool for sustainable societies.
